+ How does the program work?
The Agriculture Education on the Move™ team works with partnering schools to bring the important message of agriculture, food production, and its impact on the world around us to elementary schools. Our knowledgeable educators visit the classroom once a week for 10 weeks to highlight topics around plant and animal sciences, careers, soil, nutrition, and more. We value our partnering organizations and their work in developing quality educational curriculum and resources. We equip our passionate team with those resources and focus on delivering knowledge and experiences to student audiences.
+ What is the cost of the program?
The program is free to the school. Our supporting partners across Missouri agriculture make this opportunity available to students. Each participant receives a workbook and supplies for corresponding STEM-related activities during this exciting program.
+ What does the weekly classroom visit look like?
Our passionate educators deliver weekly 30- to 40-minute interactive presentations which highlight the unit objectives, and often include a virtual farm tour and video/audio related to their lesson. The final 15-20 minutes of the visit are set aside to do a hands-on activity based on the lesson. These activities include planting seeds, making butter, creating feed rations, and calculating food costs. The hands-on component is crucial to learning and makes the topic fun and interactive for students.
+ What grade level is this program designed for?
Our curriculum is designed for Missouri 3rd to 4th grade students. Most of our lesson plans meet third-grade objectives and our participants are typically third graders. Depending on the region and state, other grade levels may feel the material is more appropriate for their grade level. Curriculum and standards are provided per unit, so administrators and educators can determine what is best for them.
+ What if we cannot fit in 45-60 minutes per week, but still want to do the program at some level?
When our participating classrooms engage in the full 10-week program, they experience the benefits of learning and quality material delivered during this time. However, we understand that educators have a full schedule and a lot to accomplish in a day. If a school would like to participate but has limited opportunities in their scheduling, we will work with teachers and administration to provide any portion of programming we can. Our goal is to deliver high-quality curriculum for as many Missouri students as possible.
+ How do we sign up?
An interested classroom teacher or school administrator can complete the general enrollment form. Upon receiving a request for enrollment we will determine our staff availability and work to fulfill the request. One of our team members will then reach out to you to follow up on your request.
+ Do you offer summer school programming?
Yes, we appreciate all opportunities to engage students and share the important message of agriculture. Our team will work with schools in scheduling a series which meets the time constraints of a summer school schedule. In the past two years, our summer school enrollment has expanded immensely.
+ How does the 4-H/FFA partnership work?
We work with 4-H leaders and FFA advisors to implement the program in communities across the state. Selected 4-H and FFA members act as the lead educator and implement the program in community classrooms. Selected students work through a training process to prepare for delivering the program. An interested 4-H leader or FFA advisor can complete the inquiry form by clicking the drop down on our form, and one of our team members will reach out to you with next steps.
